This film is about a man who pretends to be gay and has a date with a gay guy, in order to get the girl he wants."Eating Out" is a low budget comedy, but it has all the right ingredients to be an entertaining film. I like the story as it is a refreshing change from all the standard romantic comedy. It has adult themes and at times stretches on for a bit too long, but these scenes do not feel out of place. There is a lot of positivity and social support for the main characters too, which is uplifting and empowering."Eating Out" is fun, lighthearted and makes people happy. That's all that matters for a comedy.

Some writers are trying so hard to create good gay drama or for that matter good gay comedies...they simply don't understand that there is a fine line between gay comedies and gay drama...most gay movies nowadays have nothing to do with real life...very few actually get a point across and deal more with real life... Eating Out is a terrible movie...the acting is pretty bad, the actors have no chemistry and all the performances seem forced and just out of sync...the plot is all over the place and is one of those movies that make the overused, ridiculous and dumb assumption that "anyone can go gay." Crap like "Eating Out" should be banned...movies like this create an illusive yet really ridiculous scenarios that anyone and everyone can be gay for the sake of entertainment or whatever in the movie...And It Doesn't Work...this movie goes down the line with "Eating Out" "Prom Queen" and "Touch of Pink" and "testosterone"---as all really Bad gay movies...i know there's tons of good and bad str8 movies...but considering that movies with gay themes have less opportunities to go mainstream and on the big screen...at least writers should make an effort to make them better than the rest so they can stand out and More people can see them and not just gay people....oh and that other movie "Ski trip" about the black gay guys who well go on a ski trip...which they keep showing on logo channel...is a horrible movie (they were just begging for laughs in this movie...the flamboyant guys didn't look gay at all and in one part some guy is eating his buggers...out of nowhere..so tasteless and stupid!) I just saw "Brother to Brother" and "The Mudge Boy" (although this one wasn't so much about being gay)...as well as "Brokeback mountain" which were all great awesomely gay movies...they were real and easy to relate to! with all this talk about gay issues i think films with gay themes owe it to themselves to make their films both plausible, entertaining and ways to relate to a wide spectrum of people...Sex is a wonderful thing with the opposite or same sex...but i am really tired of the gratuitous sex scenes in some of these gay movies...they are absurd and dumb...once again watching "eating out" made me wanna throw up! Queer as folk was a good series overall...but it was just too much gratuitous and senseless sex...it made it extremely difficult for me to watch as a gay man..can u imagine a str8 person? there was no reason for that whatsoever...and the fact that they had like 5 seasons and there wasn't a single minority in the show with actual drama was just Appalling...considering that gay minorities in America deal with double the problems! that one show "Noah's arc" in Logo was awful too...just really really bad!

Eating Out is a warped college sex comedy from up-and-coming indie US director, Q Allan Brocka.Shot in ten days on MD, it's about Caleb, who falls for fag hag Gwen, infamous for turning all her previous boyfriends gay. The way for Caleb to steal her heart? To pretend that he's gay, according to his roomie, Kyle. But the plan backfires when Gwen decides to set Caleb up with her best friend, Marc. The cast includes Scott Lunsford as Caleb, Emily Stiles as Gwen, Ryan Carnes as Marc and Jim Verraros as Kyle. Rebekah Kochan has a memorable cameo as Caleb's kinky bonk-buddy Tiffani.Eating Out is light, pacey and funny, although it's obviously been made on a shoestring budget. In addition, the actors never transcend caricature to behave like real people. In one scene Caleb and Marc get it on, with Caleb only able to do so while Gwen whispers phone sex talk in his ear. It's clear that Marc's being used here, but he barely even notices. If that doesn't faze you, you'll probably enjoy Eating Out, which screens as part of the Melbourne Queer Film Festival, running from March 11-21.

Watch the length of Caleb's sideburns in the scene with him and Kyle sitting on the bed. Caleb's sideburns appear to alter from long and pointed, to short and square sideburns several times during this scene. To me, it indicates that extra footage needed to be re-shot at a later date. The Australian DVD contains the male full frontal scene discussed on this website by others. It is brief but both actors are seen nude before they get dressed. Good movie with some funny lines but the ending is uncomfortable and the male "hook up" at the end is silly.
