I agree with Linda's comment... I've seen this movie twice, and I would love to watch it again, I just can't find it, I've look in many video stores, so I guess I'll buy it from a online stores. Anyways, this movie had a really big impact on me, when I was a kid.. it just changed my way to treat animals, and well personally I think this is one of those movies that when you watch it.. you just won't forget it. like a said a big impact, it made me reflect in how people just take advantage of too many species without caring about our environment. to finish this I've notice that there are many great classic movies that are forgotten... I remember watching DARYL another great film, hard to find too.. and well I can't think of any other. well.. I hope this comment is useful for other people! Peace!

I was in the Air Force when this movie came out, and it saddened me quite a bit. I kept thinking, "Do civilians really think of us as these stupid, evil creatures?" I certainly hope not. Everything about the Air Force showed the movie makers contempt for it. From the way Mr. Broderick wore the uniform, to gambling on base, to the lab tech's voice intoning that everyone who had been tested for drugs was positive for something. Such disrespect, and the whole premise (really? Monkey pilots? Really??) was preposterous. GAG! And if you think using monkeys for the purpose of piloting jets is insane, what about using them as actors in this piece of crap? I'm sure if they were capable of feeling any emotions, it would have been shame.

We have the most charming and endearing non-human character in the history of cinema. Lassie, Benji or even Toto couldn't hold a burning piece of blue wax to the impossible not to love Virgil. We have two lead actors with enough charisma to hold their own, while maintaining the quiet humility necessary not to upstage the simian lead. We have many genuine laughs and just as many heartfelt tears. We have characters, human and non, that we love and care about. We have genuine and sincere passion and emotion. We have a powerful political statement and a film that's actually about something. My affection and personal attachment for the musical, THE PRODUCERS is well known by everyone who knows me well. However, this not so well known gem is truly Matthew's shining masterpiece!

I really enjoyed this movie, despite what cynics, bigots and critics say, who can't appreciate a drama that stands on it's own two feet. It may be regarded as a "chick flick," but it's designed for those who have a heart, who have feelings. I saw this movie as a kid and recently bought it on DVD; I enjoy it now, just as much as I did when I was younger.I realize that what was done in this movie has been done already in real life years ago, by the US Air Force, but this is a movie--it should be taken lightly as one.The soundtrack is important in most movies and does great justice to this one. You'd have to appreciate composers of classical music, such as Horner, to appreciate this one. The acting was good and the chimps steal about half of the scenes because it's mostly about them.I wonder how PETA felt about this movie. I just don't want to hear or read about them whining about anyone harming the chimps...
