Besides Bloodsucking Freaks, Redneck Zombies is my favorite movie released by Troma Team Studios. Super low budget and shot on a hand-held camera, Redneck Zombies certainly is'nt the purdiest them there film I've seen. However, that does work in the films favor along with the horrible acting and truckloads of comedy and gore. Redneck Zombies is a hilarious piece of camp about some hillbillies that make moonshine out of a barrel containing toxic warfare nuclear chemical waste that turn the rural populace into zombies. There is a lot of funny crap here, but when the film gets more serious the terror and horrific elements work. Unlike many other horror productions with similar budgets to work with Redneck Zombies is never boring and has a fresh take on the genre. Obviously, this sort of thing is'nt for everyone. If you like outrageous, super campy horror that has fun with stereotypes and contains tons of brutal, ultra gore Redneck Zombies is a cool flick for you to check out.

This movie is a one of a kind laugh-fest that has the gore for the horror aficionados. The smallest of small things make me laugh. From the zombies burping after a heavy meal to the witty one liners that, although sometimes asinine, can still create a chuckle from the lax viewer. Ferd Mertz (Bucky Santini) is by far the winner here when it comes to the laughs. A great way to spend a good night and to introduce people to the bizarre and obscure. Totally cheesy but all in good fun! There are really no blatant cliché moments in this one that leave you scratching your head and wondering if your intelligence has been insulted. Redneck Zombies is not suppose to be taken seriously. Anyone who does is obviously watching this movie for all the wrong reasons. Highly recommended if you can find a place that carries it. If not there is always Amazon.

I love cheesy, gory, horror-comedies from the 80's, but i gotta say i was disappointed with REDNECK ZOMBIES. With a plot about toxic blood thirsty undead rednecks and a cover that boasts "a goremeister's delight" that "really delivers the goods" and "a back-woods bloodbath that'll tickle your funny bone, then rip it out," this movie sounded really promising. I got into this movie expecting it to be up there with TOXIC AVENGER (one of my all time favorites), and ended up finding it pretty lame. I knew it would be extremely cheap (and believe me it's about as cheap as it gets) and that doesn't bother me at all. The movie is really funny at times too (it's almost worth watching just for the incredibly hysterical scene involving a black soldier listening to a religious radio program...but i won't give it away); there is also a hilarious scene involving some boobies, but where the hell is the gore? It might be worth watching if viewed merely as a comedy but gore hounds like myself will be unsatisfied. If you wanna watch an extremely cheap shot on video zombie flick that delivers the goods check out FLESHEATER instead, and for those who like comedy with their slime and gore i'd recommend these far superior titles instead: THE TOXIC AVENGER, CLASS OF NUKE 'EM HIGH, Hollywood CHAINSAW HOOKERS, and STREET TRASH (all favorites of mine)

This movie seems to get a lot of negative attention and I wonder why that is. I mean, it IS a Troma movie so I already had low expectations. The title of the movie is Redneck Zombies so that further lowered my expectations and when I read the plot I just couldn't stop laughing. Radioactive waste mistaken for moonshine by rednecks, they drink it and transform into zombies!!! I couldn't wait to watch this. The start opens with a parody of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and it is very funny. But then I realised this wasn't filmed normally, it was filmed on video. It looked so shoddy I realised to take this seriously would be stupid. The acting, music, dialogue, plot, direction and everything else was bad, just plain bad. I couldn't stop laughing at how bad and ridiculous it really was. And the gore was excellent and let me say, there is a lot of it. Do you expect any less from Troma?? 3/5.
