First of all I have to confess that I'm a total newbie to the Angry Video Game Nerd. I didn't follow his output and so I'm not familiar with his cosmos and also probably not the core group the movie is aimed at. Nevertheless a good movie in my opinion should always be capable of carrying on at least part of its charm also to outsiders. "Angry Video Game Nerd - The Movie" unfortunately doesn't manage to.It is all settled around the character himself who refuses strongly to review the "worst game of all times" (E.T.) and is tricked into dealing with the topic by a clever company fresh-woman that gives him an opportunity to prove all the myths around the game as lies. Unfortunately, they're not only true but only the starting point to much more sinister and stunning reveals. At times, the movie can be with some right called a slapstick comedy. Sadly, it is more slapstick than comedy, with old gags, mediocre attempts to steal a laugh and absurdity that at some times amuses, at other times just seems strange. Further on, I don't understand the sidekick. I don't know if he's a regular part of the show but in the movie his only task seemed to be to go on the nerves of almost everyone. All in all this was a big homage to a YouTube star. The whole world loves him in this movie, even before he literally saves it. That's maybe a bit too much, even though indeed many people love this guy. It's those people that could like the film. I can imagine if you have a stronger bonding to the character, you probably have more fun with this one. Some of the ideas and gags are actually quite entertaining and you'll probably be willing to forgive more. So if you're a fan, go for it, you will anyway, if not rather pick something else instead.

Why even bother to make a movie about a character who curses at old video games? if the makers of it were smart they would have created something new.the whole thing was such a missed opportunity.i mean they could have still used the character in a different context. the storytelling aspect is even worse.if this is supposed to be a comedy then why isn't it even funny? have these people really such a lame sense of humour? this movie is not funny nor entertaining nor does it have any artistic value.so what is the point of it??? in conclusion this entire project was a bad idea and i doubt that they will ever get that much money again to make another one.

James Rolfe, is what I believe to be the best you tuber around. His latest creation AVGN is such a radical web series. Even better than the Nostalgia Critic. Okay maybe the critic was fine, but the nerd is top notch. But if someone told you that there's a film based on the web series, you'd definitely say... WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?Yeah, that's this isn't the film that captured what the AVGN was all about. Okay well maybe it did, but only slightly. So we all know the nerd is famous on the internet, but why does work at a game store if he's famous? Who knows. But then he realizes that he has to review this parody of the infamous Atari game E.T. In the film, the burial of the cartridges was said to be an urban legend. WHAT?!That happened in real life. I even found a video proving that the games were in fact buried in the desert. So basically the nerd's goal is to review this game if he finds the games under the sand. But they're are times where film loses focus, saying that it also includes alien stuff. Even the effects are lame, was it really that difficult to hire an expert in special effects? Also most the acting is a bit lame, and what's even worse is that the nerd stays in character the whole time, even if Rolfe pulled off an amazing performance. The only thing good about the film, is the soundtrack. Why? Because it's a combination of game music and electric music. So epic. But that isn't strong enough to safe the film. Stick to the internet Rolfe, you may be descent filmmaker in your web series, but you're not ready to make movies just yet. So that's Game Over for you.

I've never heard of ANGRY VIDEO GAME NERD before I watched this movie, he's one of those youtubers who plays video-games and reviews them, which in all honesty doesn't sound like it would make for much of a movie. But of course this is far from a biography but a low-budget comedy/scifi extravaganza with the nerd playing a version of himself as he sets out to debunk the myth that Atari buried thousands of copies of the video game E.T. (based on the movie) out of shame in the desert, but what he discover is a conspiracy far greater than anyone could have imagined.Reminiscent of FANBOYS (2009) and PAUL (2011) but with a budget of less than a 100th of the latter... Literally, PAUL (2011) was a 40.000.000 dollar movie where as ANGRY VIDEO GAME was 325.000 so yeah as far as special-effects goes it's pretty darn bad BUT that adds a bit to it's charm...Perhaps they were trying to do a little too much at times but it makes it a bit more unpredictable I suppose if nothing else, and they probably wanted to give their fans bang for their buck as it was financed by a fundraiser.Overall though, when I saw it was almost 2 hours long I had second thoughts cause most regular comedies made by the pros don't really have the material to sustain interest for me for that long but the ride was surprisingly smooth in terms of that, didn't even consider hitting the fastforward button once. The acting is so so, but what can you expect from a youtuber? He wasn't terrible at least and fairly funny at times, the rest of the cast were good enough. Entertaining if you're in the right mind for it, just don't expect a Steven Spielberg spectacle of a movie... Probably helps if you've at least played an ATARI or a Nintendo 8-bit console or something of the sorts.
