Boy Meets Girl is the first older film that I reviewed because I received the DVD recently, it came out in 2014. I would have to say that the film has some simple clichés, but it does some of the realities of transgender women in the south. The breakout star of the film was Michelle Hendley was perfect and I hope she gets more work soon. This film can be great film for parents to watch when there child comes out as transgender and it will help some come to term who their child was always supposed to be. I was shocked that this film was not nominated for any Golden Globes. The period setting was perfect when it comes to the costumes. Hair styling, and cars. I felt a powerful connection to this film because I am pre-male to female transgender woman and I currently live in the south currently. This film could have been ten minutes shorter. I hope there will be more transgender films to come including about transgender women of color as well religious transgender women. I believe this film is twenty minutes too long. I am giving this film 9 and ½ stars out of 10.

"Boy Meets Girl" is the story of a transgender young woman who lives in rural America and longs to move to New York City to study fashion. She meets a rich girl who appreciates her, and their relationship changes the lives of many people. This film has a fantastic cast and a wonderful script. The story is written with a both no-holds-barred approach and a beautiful sensitivity. It touches on many aspects of transgender life and it touches the emotions.Michelle Hendley (as the main character, Ricky) turns in a performance that is brave and heartwarming.

Reluctantly starting watching this indie flick due to its transgender plot, it soon drew me in with its funniness and lighthearted deepness; a feel good movie covering quite some tricky topics without ever being awkward. Michelle Hendley gives a wonderful performance, Alexandra Turshen is a stunning sweetheart and Michael Welch is doing well after a slow start. This movie is a wonderful reminder that we all struggled more or less to be confident in our sexuality and that the best way is to me open minded and respectful. I watched a lot of movies lately, despite many others it had almost no moments where my attention would fade or that I would fast forward a bit (I often jump over obvious conversations or lengthy takes that do not drive forward the story line as well a long action scenes). P.S.: This is my first movie review ever, so please be gentle ;)

While I applaud Michelle Hendley's breakout performance in particular, and the film's attempt to deal with transgender issues in general, my unavoidable conclusion is that this is really a perfectly awful film. It has no internal logic; the plot just sputters forward with no regard to character, dialog or common sense. There are so many instances of face-palm behavior that I couldn't begin to list them here. Another reviewer mentioned "Boys Don't Cry" (a movie about an event that took place 75 miles from where I live) as an example of a good transgender movie, and I would totally agree. "Boy Meets Girl," however is not even close to that standard, not even in the same universe. I would hope to see Michelle Hendley again, in a better movie. But this movie, no. What a mess.
