Some soldiers become werewolves as a result of a tour of duty might have looked good on paper but the execution with this movie is anything but. The War Wolves don't look quite as menacing as they are meant to be with their execution with this movie and somehow the talents of veteran actors in John Saxon and Adrienne Barbeau are completely wasted here. Also the good guys are not good enough in their presentation for me to root them for. The villains and good guys of course fight but there is no sense of any enthusiasm for these fights. War Wolves muddles through with its entirety and as said before John Saxon and Adrienne Barbeau's talents are wasted here. Saxon does not make for a convincing hero of this movie while it is hard to understand what was exactly Adrienne Barbeau's purpose in being in this movie.

I usually watch SyFy movies on weekends while editing video. More often than not they are easy to walk away from when I need to concentrate on my work or turn off the audio. Plots are template driven, characters are stock, effects are cheesy and you don't need a big screen plasma to laugh at them.WAR WOLVES departs from the formula in several ways and I liked it a lot more than I expected to. Seeing John, Tim and Adrienne was a treat. Somebody cared enough to set up some nice atmosphere in several scenes such as the bar confrontation early on and understood the visual power of "magic hour" lighting. Some key characters had mysterious backgrounds, although this may not have been intentional. The formula and template was there but the stock characters were a little less "stock" than many shows where everyone is snack food for the big CGI or puppet monster. This thing was shot in Inverness, California according to IMDb and I think they drew from LA for a decent crew and attempted a decent production design on a shoestring budget. They apparently spent more on cast and less on fake blood and needless explosions or maybe the director called in some favors.Nobody turns on SyFy expecting OTHELLO, but WAR WOLVES was striving to be TERMINATOR or SWAMP THING and deserves credit. I would love to see them try it again with a 10x budget and I betcha the continuity, plot holes and bad makeup and cheesy fight scenes could be patched right up!

This movie is like the AMPM stores. Ever seen the commercials for it? Like the store this movie has TOO MUCH GOOD STUFF. Where do I begin? Let's see... Great acting, incredible and deep dialog, unique and interesting characters, a neat surprise ending, unexpected scares, smokin' hot female werewolves (suck it, Twilight!), etc. Michael Worth was the writer for Sasquatch Mountain which had just as much memorable dialog as War Wolves. May I just say that the creative title War Wolves alone is enough to intrigue me. This movie is one of the best werewolf films I have ever seen. Everything in the film just came together so well, I could not have asked for a better result. This movie is going down as a favorite for me!

OK that might be exaggerating a little bit, if u are fan of the so called werewolves-films out there, then u might just probably wanna see this one. But then I would suggest to fast forward straight to the end, because the rest of the movie really is below average, and that is still putting it very politely.Anyway, the story on itself isn't to bad at all. Couple of marines, get caught in the war (mostlikely Iracq) they get infected by a tribe of wolf-people, making sure they will change themselves into wolves over time. Any sci-fi and horror lover will just lick his fingers on a story like this. (So did I btw). And I know it is a low-budget movie, but in the end low-budget means not that many special effects and not the A-list actors. Here we have a gathering of some veterans on the B and C-list, whom in the past have given some decent performances. But in this movie it is just over the top, actually so much over that it tends to become ridiculous (but that was I suppose not the intention) So the acting is rather bad, not to say borderline awful. Besides that the make-up for the changing characters in wolves, was just childlike, they look like they are ready to go to some carnaval festival, instead of trying to scare us or make us believe that they actually can change into wolves. There is another low-budget about people changing into wolves out there, starring Olivier Martinez (believe the name is Blood and Wine) now there the effects were a lot more realistic, then in this film. Overall this film has let me down over the whole line. The editing was bad, the acting not good, the director doesn't know how to tell a story, and what is the thing with Elvis actually ???? If anyone can tell me the relevance, I would greatly appreciate it.
