The film is a drama about the aftermath of the 1520s Spanish Conquest of Mexico told from the perspective of the indigenous Aztec people. It explores the social, religious, and psychological changes brought about by a historical process of colonization that both defined the American continent and is also highly reminiscent of today’s neocolonialism.

This film was a perfect example of how life could've been when the Spaniards conquered the Aztecs. Hardly any directors of recording artists have gotten into this topic or group. I doubt that they ever will because this topic doesn't really interest anybody, only the Mexicans and the descendants. The film goes into depth on how the Spaniards conquered our land and just slaughtered our race. They slaughtered our race so they can get our people to believe in a new faith, The virgin Mary. The Aztecs didn't want to stop making sacrifices, and didn't want to stop talking to their gods. The Spaniards considered them as dehumanized creatures and i agree because people have to have logic in order to survive. I recommend this film to those who are interested in the Mexican culture.

La Otra Conquista is a historical drama that is directed by Salvador Carrasco and set in the 1500's after the Spanish had started their conquest of the Aztec Empire. The main conflict of the story is of the protagonist, Topiltzin, who tries hard to retain his Aztec heritage while the Spanish try to convert him to their religion and their way of life. There are a lot of parallels that could be drawn to other conquests and occupations throughout the world and Carrasco speaks not only to the history of Mexico, but the history of the world. He effectively conveys Topiltzin's struggle to retain his identity (after being named Tomás once the Spanish arrived) and also his culture. Since religion was important in both of these cultures, this film is ripe with religious symbols and ideas (most of which are very similar). A main religious point of the film is a statue of the Virgin Mary, which the Spanish brought with them for their conquest.Overall this movie was very enjoyable and raised questions about whether invading a country and trying to change the core beliefs of a culture is even possible. There are a few elements of magical realism in regard to the religious symbols and Topiltzin's struggles (even though the director has stated that was not his intention) and they are inserted seamlessly into the film to not take away from the viewer's experience. I recommend this movie and if there was any doubt in your mind, the box office results speak for itself.

In the film "the other conquest , we can clearly understood what is love and what is belief. Also this film can let you understood the history of North American. Most people may consider that this film is talking about religion, but I don't think that is the subject of this film. I think the Virgin's of Gualalupe is just a symbol, she doesn't belong to any religion, When the main character loves the photo, that show us that the main character not feel along , because the photo is his belief---- about his family and his home town. Also this movie described lot of bloody scenes, such as, at the beginning of this open sense is the great temple Massacre Introduces the protagonist in 1520 the extinction of aggression that Spanish Empire did to Mexico, then Mexico was conquered by Spanish. I am a international student, this film can make me understand North American history . I will bring this film to china , to let more people to know it .

After seeing this movie and reading about the history of making it, I have entirely change my view of many things. I saw the movie without any knowledge of either the indigenous people in Mexico or the history behind the concurring. At first, I did not feel any connection towards the movie of which I judged negatively and compared it to other "regular Hollywood" movies. I simply found the movie pretty boring. However, after knowing more about the concurring and the reasons of making it from Carrasco, I realized that this was a movie that also lives on behind the screen. This movie actually opened my eyes and made me read more about the concurring and indigenous people who had suffered during that time. It's a really interesting historical event that I would not have known about if not seeing this movie. It's rare to find a movie that makes oneself think of the brutal world as The Other Conquest do.
