I liked this movie and would have liked it even more with a few minor adjustments. Very confused by all the 1/10 ratings. The worst possible quality movie, on all levels? Really?What is a movie/a story supposed to do? Take you on a journey. Leave you with a meaningful result emotion. Check and check.Bonus points may include: Keep you on your toes with plenty of twists and turns. Give you a couple of excellent acting moments. Keep you mindful about what is going wrong in the world. Check this list for me.A few things are unusual. Part due to budget. It's not Avatar. Part due to the way the story is told and some visual storytelling tools coming from outside the standard vocabulary. If that doesn't throw you and the list above is what you're looking for, you've got the right show. You will spot mistakes. I always do, even in the top shows and with the high masters of acting. (btw, when people look like they are not "acting", but are just there all the time, that's the highest form.) The beginning actually threw me a little, that looked odd. In my mind, there's a reason for that. Stop watching Galaxy Quest, for example, one minute in and you'll miss out.
Do not waste your time or money. It's barely watchable. The acting is flat at best. I had nothing invested in the characters and couldn't have cared less if anything happened to them. CGI is almost Lawnmower Man quality. All that and a terrible script made for a painful watch. Thankfully I had some wine to ease the suffering.
5th Passenger is not your ordinary sci-fi thriller, which is great, because I usually don't go for that. This film made me think. So many stories explore distopian futures, but with so much subtlety, poignancy, and endearing character development, that stabs so deeply at class and gender inequality. Special effects were transporting. The music was perfect. And how refreshing it is to see strong women being real. The star of the movie is someone to watch for, I can't wait to see her next movie!!! Hopefully, this is just a prequel... that is all I will say, because the ending leaves us with some interesting possibilities.
For a low-budget film, I was impressed! Each of the characters seemed very convincing.
