WHY?????? Why DOES THIS even be called good? How did they waste 6 million dollars on this thing. Like you actually spend 7 bucks for this DVD at Shopko. Waste of 7 bucks!

Since Eli Roth wasn't directing or writing Hostel part III, I thought that it will not be as good as the original two. I knew that, and still the third Hostel film disappointed me from the very beginning. It is completely distanced from the two previous film. Now they're not in Slovakia, but Las Vegas, which feels like a forced change. Was there a good reason not to use Slovakia anymore, or did Las Vegas just feel newer to the film-makers? The movie also feels distance to the viewer as well. Of course there is violence, scenes that should be extremely suspenseful, but for some reason they just aren't. Something left the movies when Eli Roth left them. Partially it feels like the film-makers don't have as much passion, but they are doing this while their eyes look like dollar signs. But I doubt the third part was made to get some closure to the original two. Hostel part III stands out, because it is an absolute failure compared to the other two. If you want to watch it, because you saw the first two, don't. This one feels like a completely different movie done with no passion at all. Even if the first two are basically just gore horror, they had a certain feeling to them, which made them as great as they are. That is missing from the third movie, which makes them a great disappointment.

Did you like the original Hostel film? If the answer is 'yes' then did you like the sequel, Hostel Part II? If you liked that one as well, then know about Hostel Part III that it is the first in the series to be released straight to DVD. Naturally, this means that it will have less of a budget to play with and possibly less capable actors (also it was not written or directed by Eli Roth). So, knowing all, this, if you still think you can get some enjoyment out of it, give it a go. There are films that get bad reviews (and I've read some terrible ones about Hostel III), but what did people expect from a second sequel that's gone straight to DVD? I thought it was a reasonable addition to the series. Okay, the gore is lessened and a lot happens off camera and the performances aren't as polished as before, but it does what's expected. It comes across as a darker version of the Hangover as it's now set in Las Vegas after a stag night gone bad.My advice: know what you're in for before you watch. It might not be as good as the first two, but it's not as bad as some people are making out.

Eli Roth himself has said that a movie should never surpass two installments. Well, even though Hostel part 3 should not have been done at all, it would have been extremely better had it been directed by Roth, which is why is a shame that he chose to stay true to his word. I have to say I did not have any expectations about this movie. I watched it with my mother who's also a big hostel fan, and we both knew this wasn't going to be like the first ones, but it ended up being so much worse. The change of director is blatantly obvious in this movie, and not in a positive way. The first two movies had an eeriness and nightmare-like quality that made them stand out, while the third movie is bland and forced. The characters from the first two films were believable and actually quite likable, making you root for them in a matter of minutes - which is, in my opinion, one of the most important elements of a good horror picture -, and the ones here just annoyed me to no end and I was actually satisfied when some of them died. The torture scenes are laughable and the dialogs and acting are so bad I had to avert my eyes from the screen out of second-hand embarrassment for the actors. After the movie ended, I simply stared at my screen for ten minutes trying to process what the heck I had just watched. As it hit me that one of my favorite horror franchises had been ruined by this ridiculous straight-to-DVD "threequel", I was just plain angry. So, basically, if you want some laughs at the expense of terrible, horrible, awful filmmaking, watch hostel part 3. If you want to watch a movie that is actually any good, avoid this at all costs.
