A young widower returns to his hometown to search for answers to his wife's murder, which may be linked to the ghost of a murdered ventriloquist. Dead Silence has it's fair share of flaws for sure and it's far from being one of Director's James Wan's but it also has some thrilling things to say about it such as a very creepy vibe including dolls and a creepy old lady plus the acting was pretty decent as well. The twist although very clever and disturbing i did expected a bit more as well plus the cinematography was very good with the pale colors. (7/10)

Being a fan Leigh Whannell I didn't doubt I would likely enjoy this movie. I cannot be anything more than true to myself and say I though it was brilliant. For me a horror movie isn't a realistic dramatic masterpiece, it must have some kind of imagination and creation to its story. I think dead silence did very well in that respect. The story, although it follows the typical horror movie path, does veer off into something a little more fresh. Going in deeper than normal into certain characters back story is a great addition. This movie has some really great old skool scares. So if you like the jumpy horror movies like I do then give it a try.

Out of all of the creepy doll movies I've seen, this is one of the better ones thus far. This one really defines creepy to a whole new level. What makes the movie shine, for me, is the sound design or lack thereof. The suspense is definitely the main factor of the film; it really keeps you on the edge of your seat, for the majority of the time. The director, James Wan, really does show that he can direct a really good, effective horror movie. Take a look at Insidious and The Conjuring; two excellent horror movies! Dead Silence is a very underrated supernatural horror movie; not amazing, but not mediocre. If you have any desire to watch this movie, I recommend you watch the unrated version because it's way more horrifying than the theatrical version.

Dead Silence is one of those horror films a person wants to watch for grotesque creations, nightmarish things from their youth that scared them to death, and of course a hero that chooses to face his bully and get down to the bottom of things. This is basically a horror movie, gone psychotic thriller and turns into something wonderful as the story and theme develops.Having said that, Dead Silence features old manors, gossip, old rumors from times gone past and includes themes from different teen slashers of the era. The hero is out to find the cause of his girlfriend's death, only it won't be revealed until just what is going on towards the end of the movie. Like all movies, Dead Silence features a multitude of twists along the way – an inspector and police agency suspect the hero is out to be the actual murderer – so not only does the plot revolve around this boyfriend trying maintain his innocence, but avoid the same fate as his girlfriend. As the movie poster will attest – there will be ventriloquist dummies and plenty of them. These things are scary to the right person (they are to me), and they will be creepy enough to make you flinch and squirm. But don't scream; that is the entire premise of this movie – you scream and well, you get the idea. You are going to die one way or the other if you investigate the mystery behind the dummy on the poster. This movie is about teen slasher, references to the first 'Scream' movie, and a haunted spirit that wants revenge. All things will be wrapped up nicely once the movie credits roll. You don't want to miss this movie if you like the thriller and especially the horror genre.Movie review originally posted to Orion Age (http://www.orionphysics.com/?p=499)
