Ten stars for Ms. Deborah Reed, who give the performance of a lifetime in this odd little horror film. Her work in this movie incorporates a subtle blend of horror, humor, pathos, and a burning sensuality. Some of her scenes are unforgettable but the popcorn scene certainly stands out as a profound expression of her talent and beauty. She brings depth and meaning to her character and sets the screen on fire whenever she appears. While Troll 2 is an unusually bad film, there is a very important reason that this is a motion picture not to be missed. That reason is Ms. Deborah Reed.

Worst movie I have ever seen, but once I learned the background story, I just had to go back and watch it again! The story makes it so much more fun to watch! The Italian Director and his wife wanted to make a "serious" movie about the perils of vegetarianism because they were outraged that some of their friends had become vegetarians.Filmed in Utah, the crew speaks only broken English at best, the only one who speaks English is Laura Gemser, a former porn star, who was tasked with extremely low budget costume design. So, the dialogue was translated from Italian into broken English and the cast, mostly Mormons who had never acted, were commanded to say their lines as written, even though they offered to correct the English. This info is all over the Internet and on Wikipedia.

Notorious for only featuring goblins and no actual trolls, 'Troll 2' is not really a sequel to the fun 80s horror comedy starring Noah Hathaway. It does have a surprising amount in common with the first film though as both concern mischievous shape -shifting creatures who enjoy turning humans into plants. Here though, their agenda is far more horrific since they only want to turn humans into plants to eat them since they are vegetarians (!) and yet, 'Troll 2' is never scary, frightening or unsettling in the least. A lot of the blame comes down to the wooden acting, with Connie Young turning in a particularly poor performance with very rehearsed line delivery as the protagonist's older sister. The dialogue in general is bland though and the costumes and makeup for the goblins are cheap-looking. There is admittedly something interesting about the plot regarding being a vegetarian and the possible benefits of eating meat, but this all gets a little mixed up amid such absurdities as the young boy's dead grandfather being able to pause time in order that he can urinate on the food that his family is about to eat (yes, that happens). The mythology at hand is quite hard to nut out too with grandfather coming back in visions, then in real life and then, who knows? More could be said, but in short, it is easy to see why this has become a cult hit among those who like to laugh at its sheer awfulness.
