A-Z Horror Movie of the Day..."Lost Boys: The Tribe" (R - 2008 - US)Sub-Genre: Monster/Sequel My Score: 5.3Cast=5 Acting=6 Plot=4 Ending=6 Story=5 Scare=4 Jump=4 F/X=6 Monster=7 Sequel=6Risking everything in search of the ultimate rush is fun when you know you can't die. The orphan children of Michael Emerson move to Luna Bay...where once again the family runs into The Tribe of undead."Do you smell that? It smells like death and fungus. It's Vampire BO." Unfortunately, this sequel was 15 years too late...it could have been a lot better. They get Kiefer Sutherland's brother Angus...too bad he can't act. It was like it was trying to be a vampire version of "Point Break". I'm glad Edgar Frog reemerges, but the best part was the end credits scene...it's only dialogue but makes the film. Just remember, Build a man a fire, he's warm for a day. Light a man on fire, and he's warm for the rest of his life!

Slickly made, but low budget and uninteresting sequel to the iconic 1980s teen vampire movie. There is again a family moving to Santa Carla who run afoul local vampires, surfers this time instead of bikers, but that's about the only thing original about this film. When the most interesting thing about the movie is that Corey Feldman reprises his role as vampire hunter Edgar Frog, although a 13-year-old acting like a tough vampire hunter is a lot funnier than a 40something vampire hunter, even if it's tongue-in-cheek. Corey Haim also makes a cameo and Tom Savini has a funny (and gory) cameo in the film's opening. And in true B-movie fashion, this film casts a unknown relative of a movie star with Kiefer Sutherland's half-brother, Angus Sutherland as the new vampire leader. I suppose the film does achieve a decent "California" feel to it that was also achieved in the original, but really there is not much to recommend here.

First of all, in order for a movie to be good, it must be written well. If the script is garbage, the actors will be garbage and so will everything else. This movie was just awful. I watched it with my dad and it seemed like every two minutes there was a sex scene. I felt I was watching a cheesy porno or something. I am a huge fan of the first Lost Boys, and I always liked COrey Feldman but I think this movie is way past his time. He was wonderful in the eighties with the two Corey's, but when he was returned to this he wasn't the young, cute Corey Feldman he used to be. Bringing in Keifer Sutherlands half brother to play the vampire was a great idea...if his half brother could act. I think the movie should have sequels, but when they're this bad it's best left as is. My advice, don't watch this movie. Watch the original Lost Boys and leave it at that.

The IMDb rating of this movie doesn't do it justice. The film was not bad. In fact, it is my opinion that the soundtrack in the original made it feel a lot better than it actually was. This being said, there is a huge gap between the seductive horror of the original Lost Boys and the slightly above boring atmosphere of The Tribe. The main problem lies in the director, I guess. He lets the main character come up as an uptight unlikeable ass, while allowing Corey Feldman to be silly, thus robbing us of any strong lead character. The girl is no better, as she is portrayed as uber sexy and she is rather bland. The vampires were a little cooler, and choosing Angus Sutherland as the head undead was a nice touch. It all fails when the fighting action starts, though.Bottom line: decent sort of a remake of Lost Boys, but lacking the brilliance of the first. A better director or just a little more effort could have done wonders for this film. It is certainly not below average, but sadly not above, either.
