This movie wasn't even a horror movie. It's a group of people being forced to torture each other. Nothing scary, nothing supernatural. There are no real plot twists at all. Completely predictable. It got 2 stars because it is watchable. But if you're looking for a horror movie, keep looking. Lot's of gross out factor though. Plenty of gore for the gore hounds. Some people have compared this to Saw, but in my opinion that's an insult to the Saw series. This isn't creative, it doesn't draw on deeper meaning. In no way is it a reflection of society, or basic human faults. It's just a shock factor movie.

So I almost turned it off when the girls decided to break a plate and cut a finger to write numbers in blood of whom would go 1st, 2nd...etc. Really? No better way to decide turns? Draw straws perhaps? In the very same scene there was a dish strainer whose plastic construction almost resembled straws and the group obviously had tools to cut things. It's almost as if that was put in the scene to say, "see how purposely stupid this movie is?" That being said, I continued to watch if for no other reason than to see how it turned out. I can't say I was 100% dissatisfied with it, hence the "2" rating, however, I also can't say I wouldn't pull out a fingernail if forced to watch it again! :-)

At least the opening scene should have a subtitle "inspired by Dexter the TV series". While the basis for the plot is new and interesting and also has the Human Centipede/Saw gore feel to it, the actual setup to the point where the horror/gore begins is horrifyingly weak. The actors help make the film bearable, and Maya Hazen is awesome. While the characters may seem stupid beyond belief or unrealistically smart in some cases, after watching a film like Compliance that's based on real life idiots, it's best to simply take it all in. They usually tie into the overall story and are better than screaming stupid naked teens running off in all directions from bigfoot, big fang, etc. In short, the stupidity typically fits into the situation and is part of building the suspense/agitation.There's apparently a new category developing for films that annoy along side horror, tragedy, sex, and comedy. This is a combination of annoyance and standard gore. That may not be a good idea for an entire film. This also works as a story in what not to do. It does give you points of satisfaction to offset the gore, plot development stupidity, and other annoyances as if those are all pains to achieve the gain. It's horribly disappointing that opportunities for titty twisters were missed. The writer and director are in desperate need of a sense of humor.FYI, my rating may be a little harsh and I'm tempted to up it to a 5, but don't bet your collar bone on it.

It was more torture sitting through this movie than actually being in the house itself. The movie starts off with decent character development and promising cinematography that makes the viewer believe they're about to get their moneys worth. It quickly takes a 180 into terrible-ville when they're ambushed by the most unlikely of attackers... A slutty cougar in stilettos creeping around at 1 am asking people for rides. Being the poor suckers that they are, this band of genius' give her a ride and thus starts the worst horror movie ever made. Saying that this was a torture porn would be giving it far too much credit. The torture scenes were short and ill conceived. You can not even put this movie in the same category as Saw or Hostile. The most graphic scene was the movie poster, and that's doing it too much justice. Albeit, the concept was original and had promise: 8 individuals trapped in a house and they're only way to escape is to beat on each other. The story did not follow through with the psychological thriller theme, and there was very little character development past the first 5 minutes, so you really don't care which one of these character's die.In short... there's really no reason to pay money to watch this film. And in fact no reason for me to finish writing this review on a movie that apparently the writer's phoned in.
