Prince's death last year made me realize that I didn't know much of his work (in fact, I first learned of him during the period when he used a glyph as his name). I only now got around to watching "Purple Rain". What a show! The plot is routine - a man trying to make something of himself in show biz - but the music is to die for. There are a couple of scenes that are probably in there for comic relief (such as the scene by the lake), but most of everything helps move along the story.Like "8 Mile" for Eminem, this is a semi-autobiographical story for Prince. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a masterpiece, but I had a good time watching it. The soundtrack and clothing scream 1980s. Really good time.Prince and Muhammad Ali died less than two months apart, and on the internet I saw a photo of them together, captioned SERIOUSLY, F**K 2016. Sometimes it seems as though the people who died last year (aside from the aforementioned ones, there were David Bowie, Patty Duke, Gene Wilder, Florence Henderson, Fidel Castro, Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds) were the lucky ones: they didn't have to experience the freak show that is the Trump era.

I remember this when it first came out and I went with some friends. Dear god it was so bad. The script sucked and the acting was beyond terrible. This got one star from me for the costumes and set. Other than that it was just bad, lol! At the time I saw the movie I was not a fan of Prince. I am still not a fan. To this day I cannot believe I sat through the whole movie. The story is about the struggle to rise above all the crap the world throws at us so that we can become who we are. It's difficult to believe in yourself when you have terrible parents. The story could have been better written and I think that the actors were just really terrible at their jobs. Even if the script were better, you'd still need people that could act and these people couldn't. The music I didn't really care for. I've never been a Prince fan and have always found him to be completely over-rated not just as an actor but as a musician. Did you see him on Opera? Remember that he told everyone about the birth of his baby and even had pictures? Then it turned out that the baby was dead and he was showing pictures of himself with his dead baby. How messed up is that? If you are a fan of his music then you will most likely enjoy this movie because it's full of it.

For his honor and a tribute just watched again after many years the film "Purple Rain" which I hadn't saw since a kid, and I must say I enjoyed it again it was a great film! To bad that the world has just lost a great talent like "Prince" he's gone to soon. Anyway his 1984 film was a showcase a film that mixed drama, pain, sex, and romance all while showing the wonderful talent in one up and coming musician that being the one and only "Prince". The plot is simple "Prince" is a young man who with his band at the local Minnesota club plays night after night only challenges are everywhere in the form of a rival singer and the purple one's home life is anything but, as his parents are an interracial couple with the alcoholic father beating and abusing mom. Still to help get thru some of the pain, sorrow, and drama "Prince" meets an exotic and sexy lady from New Orleans who brings talent and passion and hot steamy sex scenes were a treat of this film. And the music was some of "Prince's" best songs they carried this film making it a winner as a viewer can see a time when "Prince" had just became a worldwide known star as "Purple Rain" would show.

So 32 years after it originally came out-when I was 16 at the time and wouldn't have been able to watch it at a theatre then unless I was accompanied by an adult guardian-me and my movie theatre-working friend finally watched this now-classic movie at an AMC cinema he's employed at that starred Prince, about a week after his untimely death. A fictional version of his life when he was a struggling musician, this wasn't too bad as a drama but it was excellent when it showcased Prince's musical performances especially at the end when he went from the title song (great number!) to a couple of great uptempo songs. I also enjoyed some of the banter between Morris Day and one of his bandmates when trying to figure out a certain password which turned into a "Who's on First" tribute. My friend thought the movie was alright (I think he'll always prefer Elton John when it comes to musical performances) but I was mostly just glad to have finally watched this after so many years of missing it! So, yeah, that's a high recommendation for Purple Rain.
